WITH KNOWLEDGE AGAINST COPPUPTION IN EDUCATION
| |
Center for Civic Education (CGO) and Center for Monitoring (CEMI) supported the signing of the agreement between representatives of the Anti-Corruption Initiative and the Faculty of Political Sciences (FPN), estimating another of visible results of CGO and CEMI’s joint project "Corruption in Education ".
CGO and CEMI have been conducting a joint project "Corruption in Education" for one year, supported by German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and for the first time and they have systematically open the question of corruption in higher education, for the first time in the Montenegrin society. The first official reactions from the University of Montenegro were unacceptable and highly personalized, denying the existence of deviant phenomena in our highest academic instances. However, CGO and CEMI’s analyses were confirmed, and representatives of the University of Montenegro in the official meetings don’t deny it anymore, and the fact that this agreement is signed, shows that certain parts of the University of Montenegro decided to finally fight against corruption, which is a positive step towards overcoming a recent taboo topic.
CEMI and CGO are expressing hope that the University of Montenegro and its other units are going to follow the example of the Faculty of Political Sciences. That would demonstrate a clear commitment of institutions to work on creating healthy conditions and positive atmosphere. The corruption would not be socially acceptable behavior, and students of the University of Montenegro would be convinced that only knowledge brings the title.
CGO and CEMI recall that the first step towards solving a problem is awareness of the problem, and the signing of this agreement means that first obviously difficult step. However, this act will get a full sense if these announced actions are going to be effectively implemented.
